What Beachcomb keeps

No account, no ads and no profile of you. Here's everything it does keep, and for how long.

In your browser

Your random ID

One cookie holds a random ID, so Beachcomb can remember your Keeps, More, Less and Hide, your topic picks and what it has already shown you. There's no account, and Beachcomb never asks who you are.

Your settings

Three more cookies remember your theme, your view and whether you closed the welcome line.

What you were shown

≈ 30 days

Which finds you were shown, for about 30 days, so the feed doesn't repeat itself.

Reports you send

≈ 90 days

Reports you send, for about 90 days, with your random ID, which keeps one visitor from sending the same report again and again.

Pages you suggest

ID gone in ≈ 1 day

A page you suggest, with your note and the credit you choose, if any. Your random ID is removed from it about a day later.

Your searches

Searches stay in the address bar: Beachcomb doesn't store them or write them to its logs.

Who else sees a request

Counting visits

No ads. Beachcomb counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a small script from Cloudflare that sets no cookie and, as Cloudflare describes it, builds no profile of you. It sees which page you opened (but not what you searched for), the site that sent you, your browser, your country and how fast the page loaded.

Pictures

Pictures load straight from the sites they belong to, which see the request (and may set their own cookies) but not which Beachcomb page you were on.

When you tap Visit

When you tap Visit, the site you open can see that you came from beachcomb.org, but not which find or page.

Hosting

Beachcomb runs behind Cloudflare, which carries every request, and keeps backups of its database on its own server.

Where the finds come from

Beachcomb reads a few public lists and feeds of independent pages. A find's topics are suggested by an AI model from its title, description and address.

How your feed is chosen

Nothing is ranked by popularity, traffic or how new it is. Keep, More, Less and Hide steer it; Your topics gives it a head start.
